Wayne Rooney criticizes Arne Slot for course of Liverpool’s season

Premier League legend Wayne Rooney has voiced concerns over Arne Slot’s leadership presence at Liverpool, despite the Dutchman leading the club to a 20th league title just months ago.

Wayne Rooney has suggested that Arne Slot may lack the “aura” required to sustain success at Anfield.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, Rooney noted that while Slot achieved “crazy” success by winning the 2024-25 Premier League title in his debut season, the current campaign’s struggles have placed him under immense pressure.

“I just don’t think, for Liverpool, he has that aura—and maybe that’s because Liverpool have just come off the back of Jürgen Klopp,” Rooney remarked.

Liverpool currently sit sixth in the table, trailing leaders Arsenal by 16 points.

Despite a record-breaking 2025 transfer window that saw the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, the Reds have struggled with injuries and inconsistent form from veterans like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.

Rooney warned that Slot’s future is precarious, stating, “If he doesn’t get them top five in the Premier League, he will be gone, for sure.”
