LaLiga president Javier Tebas has accused PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi of a “clear conflict of interest” that is exacerbating a financial and leadership crisis within French football’s Ligue 1.
Javier Tebas reignited his long-standing feud with Nasser Al-Khelaifi at the FT Business of Football Summit, blaming the PSG chief for the plummeting value of French media rights.
Tebas argued that Ligue 1’s lack of robust financial fair play enforcement has left the league vulnerable.
“The French league, in my opinion, they haven’t got good financial fair play rules and also the bodies have not applied them correctly,” Tebas stated.
The conflict intensified after Al-Khelaifi’s broadcaster, BeIn Sports, outbid Ligue 1’s own streaming platform for the 2026 World Cup rights.
This move prompted the resignation of LFP Media CEO Nicolas de Tavernost in protest. Tebas emphasized the need for competition interests to override individual club power, concluding:
“In France they’ve got a leadership crisis and they have to face the situation. There is a clear conflict of interest from Nasser Al-Khelaifi and the problem is not being solved.”
