Frenkie de Jong is set to miss at least seven crucial matches, including key Champions League and Copa del Rey ties, following a serious leg injury in training.
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong faces a significant layoff after sustaining a distal biceps injury in his right leg during Thursday’s training session.
Medical staff confirmed the Dutch international will be sidelined for approximately five to six weeks, dealing a heavy blow to Hansi Flick’s midfield rotations.
The club stated, “Medical tests have confirmed that the expected recovery period will be approximately five to six weeks.”
The injury rules De Jong out of several high-stakes fixtures, including the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.
He will also miss La Liga clashes with Villarreal, Athletic Club, and Sevilla, along with both legs of the Champions League round of 16.
Barcelona hope to have the playmaker back following the March international break as they enter the season’s final stretch.
