Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has dismissed criticism over his failure to shake hands with Wolves boss Rob Edwards following a disappointing 2-0 defeat that further damages Villa’s Champions League qualification prospects.
Unai Emery faced social media backlash after heading straight down the tunnel following Aston Villa’s 2-0 loss to relegation-threatened Wolves.
It was the second time this season the Spaniard skipped the customary post-match handshake.
When questioned by Sky Sports about whether his exit was due to frustration, a dismissive Emery simply responded: “No, the match was finished…”. Edwards played down the incident, showing respect for Emery.
Former Villa striker Stan Collymore led the criticism, warning that the club faces a “major capitulation” without tactical changes.
With only one win in six matches, Villa risks dropping out of the top four.
Collymore urged the coaching staff to ditch the slow build-up play, stating: “Managers have to be flexible and no manager can play how he wants to all of the time.”
