Marseille sporting director Medhi Benatia has performed a dramatic U-turn on his exit, agreeing to remain with the club until the season’s end following a direct request from owner Frank McCourt.
Medhi Benatia has confirmed he will stay at Olympique de Marseille as head of football, reversing his earlier decision to step down.
Speaking to Le Journal du Dimanche, Benatia clarified that his choice was driven by a sense of duty during the club’s current administrative transition.
“For many reasons, I could not abandon the club in these conditions,” he stated, dismissing rumors of internal power struggles.
The former Morocco international will now oversee sporting operations through the end of the campaign to ensure continuity.
His decision follows the appointment of Alban Juster as interim president amidst a broader leadership reshuffle.
Despite this extension, sources suggest Benatia still plans to depart this summer. He emphasized his loyalty to the institution, noting, “It’s a club that is dear to me, where I came through.”
