Antoine Griezmann is reportedly set to stay at Atletico Madrid until the summer after manager Diego Simeone successfully convinced him to postpone a lucrative move to Orlando City.
Antoine Griezmann is on the brink of snubbing an immediate move to Orlando City following an intensive intervention by manager Diego Simeone.
The MLS side had pushed for a mid-season transfer, but Atletico Madrid remained firm on keeping their star attacker for the current campaign.
“Practically, he’s gotten into Antoine’s head, telling him that he can’t leave now,” journalist Pablo Pinto reported regarding Simeone’s influence.
The 34-year-old’s decision to stay provides a massive boost for Atletico as they chase silverware in the Champions League and Copa del Rey.
While a move to the United States remains likely in the future, Simeone’s “job of conviction” has ensured Griezmann finishes the European season in Spain.
“In the last few days, he’s done a very important job of conviction,” Pinto added.
