UEFA issues explanation on Ibrahima Konate’s disallowed goal in Istanbul

UEFA confirmed Ibrahima Konate’s late equalizer against Galatasaray was correctly overturned by VAR for a handball, fueling further debate regarding the defender’s future and Arne Slot’s tactical frustrations.

UEFA has officially confirmed that Ibrahima Konate’s 73rd-minute goal during Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray was disallowed for a handball.

A technical statement clarified: “73′ Decision overturned: Goal disallowed. Liverpool player, No5, directly scored the goal with his right arm.”

Former referee Mark Clattenburg supported the call, noting that while the contact was accidental, the laws mandate the goal be cancelled.

Manager Arne Slot expressed frustration with the officiating in Istanbul, questioning the consistency of fouls awarded to the home side.

Slot remarked: “If you then look at how much they pulled on Virgil’s shirt before the ball hit Ibou’s arm, then it’s safe to say we weren’t the only ones impressed by the atmosphere here today.”

The result has intensified fan scrutiny regarding Konate’s inconsistency and Slot’s future.
