Incumbent Barcelona President Joan Laporta has made a dramatic election-eve pledge to slash ticket prices for non-season ticket holders by half, responding to fierce criticism regarding the club’s rising attendance costs.
In a heated final presidential debate, Joan Laporta promised to halve matchday costs for club members without season tickets.
The pledge followed a sharp critique from challenger Victor Font, who highlighted that a family of four currently pays €636 to watch Barcelona face Sevilla.
Laporta defended his financial record, stating, “Now that we have recovered the club after going through the desert, what we will do is give a 50% discount.”
The incumbent president framed the move as a reward for loyalty during the club’s recent economic hardships.
Laporta dismissed Font’s skepticism by emphasizing the stability his board has supposedly achieved. “I’m not just talking like you.
We have done very good work, and we are entering a phase of consolidation,” he remarked. This populist vow aims to secure critical support ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes presidential vote.
