Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon has labeled comments from pundits Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney as “utter stupidity” after they questioned his commitment during a recent bout of illness.
Anthony Gordon has fiercely defended his professional integrity following Newcastle’s 1-0 win over Chelsea.
The winger slammed Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer for questioning his attitude after he was benched against Barcelona due to illness.
“The stuff that the media guy told me was complete and utter stupidity,” Gordon stated. He clarified that he was bedridden for days and had even dressed in isolation to protect teammates.
The England international, who scored the decisive goal at Stamford Bridge, insisted he was desperate to play in what he called the “biggest game” of his career.
Addressing the pundits directly, Gordon remarked, “I think they need to do better at what they are doing.”
Manager Eddie Howe supported his player, confirming the benching was a medical decision despite the pundits’ claims of “hypocrisy” regarding squad interaction.
