Erik ten Hag is brimming with determination to bring a new era of success to Bayer Leverkusen. He expressed his enthusiasm following a warm reception at the Bundesliga club.
Ten Hag, who was previously relieved of his duties at Manchester United last October, opted to take a sabbatical from coaching for the remainder of the 2024-25 season. He has now stepped in to fill the void left by Xabi Alonso at Leverkusen, ready to embark on a fresh challenge.
During his tenure with the Red Devils, the Dutch manager oversaw 85 Premier League matches, securing victory in 44 of them. This translates to an average of 1.72 points per game in the highly competitive league.
Despite facing hurdles in the league, Ten Hag still managed to guide the club to two significant trophies. Under his leadership, Manchester United clinched the 2023 EFL Cup and followed it up with triumph in the 2024 FA Cup.
Speaking to Sky Sports in the aftermath of Leverkusen’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to Chelsea, Ten Hag conveyed his eagerness to embrace his new role with the 2024 Bundesliga champions.
"I’m looking forward, and I’m really happy to be back," Ten Hag stated, radiating positivity about his return to the managerial arena.
"I’m really enjoying the last couple of weeks, being back with the team, doing training, working on the game model, selecting the team and also working with the full squad.
"It is really a pleasure for me to at Leverkusen. We have a good club, we have good team and we will improve.
"I love to win trophies and that is what I have done my whole career. I want to keep this process going and that is my challenge with Leverkusen, to do the same."
