UEFA thanks Real Madrid after Finalissma plans collapse

UEFA has officially cancelled the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain after proposals to host the match at the Santiago Bernabéu were rejected by the South American champions.

UEFA has officially cancelled the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain after failed negotiations to host the match at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Despite Real Madrid’s cooperation, Argentina rejected two separate proposals.

“The first option was to hold the match at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid on the original date, with 50% of the fans in the stadium… but Argentina refused,” UEFA explained in a statement.

A second compromise involving a two-legged series was also dismissed.

“The second option was to play the Finalissima as a two-legged series… One leg at the Santiago Bernabéu on March 27 and the other in Buenos Aires,” the governing body revealed.

Consequently, UEFA publicly thanked Real Madrid, noting that their supportive efforts were remarkably “made with extremely short notice” despite the eventual project collapse.
