Mark Clattenburg supported the referee’s decision to deny Manchester United a second penalty in their dramatic 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, despite Michael Carrick labeling the officiating as “baffling.”
Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth amid refereeing controversy.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring via a penalty, but the Red Devils were denied a second spot-kick when Amad Diallo went down. Bournemouth immediately equalized through Ryan Christie.
Despite a James Hill own goal restoring United’s lead, Harry Maguire was sent off before Eli Junior Kroupi salvaged a point for the hosts.
Former referee Mark Clattenburg defended the decision to deny Amad a penalty, contradicting interim boss Michael Carrick’s frustrations.
Clattenburg stated: “I believe the referee and VAR were right to play on, as this would have been in the very soft category if given.”
The result leaves United fourth in the table, while Bournemouth remains tenth ahead of the remaining weekend fixtures.
