FIFA sued over excessive 2026 World Cup ticket prices

Football Supporters Europe has filed a lawsuit with the European Commission against FIFA, alleging the governing body abused its monopoly to impose “excessive” and “opaque” ticket prices for the 2026 World Cup.

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) and Euroconsumers filed a formal complaint with the European Commission against FIFA on Tuesday.

They allege the governing body abused its monopoly to impose “excessive ticket prices” and unfair purchasing conditions for the 2026 World Cup.

Fans are outraged that the cheapest final tickets start at $4,185, a seven-fold increase compared to the 2022 tournament held in Qatar.

The lawsuit highlights the controversial use of “dynamic pricing,” which allows costs to fluctuate without transparency.

While FIFA president Gianni Infantino defends the costs as a result of high demand, FSE claims the “Category 4” $60 seats are practically non-existent for the general public.

Critics argue the North American tournament has relegated the championship to a luxury event, ignoring initial promises of affordability.
