Struggling Ligue 2 side Montpellier HSC is reportedly on the verge of being acquired by an unnamed English investment group, marking a major shift in ownership for the former French champions.
Montpellier HSC is nearing a definitive ownership change as an English group moves to finalize a majority takeover.
Following the club’s recent relegation and owner Laurent Nicollin’s public plea for fresh capital, journalist Romain Molina reports that a deal is imminent.
Nicollin previously expressed his pragmatic approach to the situation, stating: “Our fall has to be less painful at the end of the year.”
The identity of the English buyers remains confidential, but they are expected to assume control of the Ligue 2 outfit.
Montpellier currently sits just outside the promotion playoff spots, making the injection of funds critical for a top-flight return.
Nicollin, who distributed a ten-page investment prospectus to banks, summarized the club’s desperate search for stability by noting: “We are throwing a hook into the sea.”
