Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has conceded he would allow Ballon d’Or winner Rodri to join Real Madrid if the midfielder desires a return to his Spanish homeland, citing his long-standing policy of not retaining unhappy players.
Pep Guardiola has admitted he would not stand in Rodri’s way should the midfielder seek a move to Real Madrid.
Acknowledging the “allure” of the Bernabeu for the Madrid-born star, Guardiola stated his philosophy of allowing players to leave if they are no longer content.
He remarked: “There is not one player I would think that will turn down the chance to play for Real Madrid.”
Despite his openness to a transfer, Guardiola emphasized Rodri’s vital importance to City’s tactical setup.
The 29-year-old remains a cornerstone of the squad as they chase Arsenal in the Premier League.
Expressing his desire for the anchor to stay, Guardiola noted: “My wish is that Rodri could stay as much longer as possible in this club because he’s an incredible player, a top player.”
