After a decade at Manchester United and a challenging stint in Scotland, former youth captain James Nolan has opened up about falling out of love with football before finding a fresh start in the small-sided Baller League.
James Nolan, a former Manchester United academy captain, has detailed his emotional journey from the brink of a first-team debut to the small-sided Baller League.
After ten years at Old Trafford and a loan spell at Inverness Caledonian Thistle that ended in administration, Nolan was released just before Christmas.
He admitted the rejection was devastating, stating: “It was a tough one to take and then it did sort of ruin my Christmas.”
After struggling to find a new professional club and briefly stepping away from the game, the 20-year-old defender has found a “new lease on life” with the Gold Devils team.
Joining fellow academy alumni in the high-intensity competition helped him rediscover his passion.
Reflecting on his brush with the elite level at United, Nolan noted: “I was very close to Man Utd’s first team… but everyone understands that.”
