Jamaica’s dreams of reaching the 2026 World Cup ended in heartbreak following a controversial 1-0 defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The decisive goal appeared to involve a clear handball, sparking immediate outrage from the Jamaican bench and traveling supporters.
Despite frantic appeals to the officiating crew, the goal stood, condemning the Reggae Boyz to a narrow exit from the final qualifying round.
The Jamaica Football Federation confirmed it has filed an official protest, citing a “grave officiating error” that impacted the match’s integrity.
While the Congolese celebrated their historic advancement, Jamaican officials remained defiant regarding the injustice.
A team spokesperson stated: “We are devastated by the manner of this exit; the video evidence clearly shows the ball was directed into the net by a hand.”
