Promising English winger Ajay Tavares will miss the rest of Barcelona’s campaign after suffering a fractured wrist during a frightening collision with a stadium barrier on his full debut for the U19s.
Barcelona’s winter signing Ajay Tavares faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines following a “dramatic and concerning” injury against Gimnàstic de Tarragona.
The English youngster lost his footing during a solo run and collided heavily with a barrier behind the goal.
Medical staff rushed to the pitch after he remained motionless, and subsequent hospital examinations confirmed a fractured wrist requiring six to eight weeks of recovery.
The injury is a “particularly cruel blow” as it occurred during Tavares’s first start for the club. Widely regarded as a top talent who attracted Premier League interest before moving to Spain, his debut season is now prematurely over.
Barcelona officials had secured his signature with a long-term development plan, but they must now wait until the 2026–27 campaign to see the exciting attacker return to action.
