Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett has asserted that match officials failed to award Paris Saint-Germain a blatant late penalty during their 2-0 Champions League victory over a struggling Liverpool side.
Keith Hackett has accused officials of a major error for failing to penalize Ibrahima Konate’s late push on Nuno Mendes.
While Liverpool lost 2-0, Hackett insists a penalty should have been awarded to PSG.
The former referee told Football Insider: “This was a push by Konate that should have resulted in the award of a penalty kick. The subtle push impacted on the forward.”
While a separate second-half penalty against Konate was correctly overturned via VAR, Hackett believes the late incident required intervention.
Commentator Ally McCoist echoed the sentiment, stating live on TNT Sports, “I’m telling you right now, that’s a penalty.”
Hackett concluded that “VAR should have intervened to enable the referee to have a second (view of the) incident,” potentially leaving Liverpool’s hopes in tatters.
