Former German international Dietmar Hamann has called on Borussia Dortmund to set a firm deadline for Nico Schlotterbeck to sign a new contract as tensions rise over a potential release clause.
Dietmar Hamann has advised Borussia Dortmund to pressure Nico Schlotterbeck into a quick decision regarding his expiring contract.
With the center-back reportedly demanding a release clause for a future move to a larger club, Hamann argued that an ultimatum is necessary to protect the club’s interests.
“There’s no other way,” Hamann insisted, suggesting a firm two-week deadline to resolve the ongoing negotiations.
Despite the outside pressure, Dortmund technical director Lars Ricken has rejected the idea of an ultimatum for the 26-year-old.
Schlotterbeck recently adopted a more conciliatory tone following a win over Stuttgart, indicating that a resolution is near.
However, Hamann remains firm that granting a release clause would be a mistake, stating, “Then they might as well shut up shop. I simply cannot imagine it.”
