CD Colonia Moscardó president Javi Poves has stepped down after a video showing him harassing Muslim players with pork sparked international condemnation and allegations of religious discrimination.
Spanish football is facing a major racism crisis after a video surfaced showing CD Colonia Moscardó president Javi Poves chasing Muslim players with Iberian pork.
The 39-year-old initially posted the footage on social media, shouting at the players to consume the meat.
Poves later defended the act as “a misunderstood joke,” adding, “We were trying to have some fun, but some people used it to attack the club.”
Public outcry has led to Poves’s resignation from his post, though he remains on the board of directors.
Poves, a former professional player known for controversial flat-earth views, announced he would leave the sport to become a shepherd.
The Spanish Football Federation is currently under intense pressure to launch a formal investigation into the incident, which critics argue shows a total disregard for sporting values.
