Arsenal have received a Champions League boost after Atletico Madrid forwards Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sorloth suffered injuries during Saturday’s Copa del Rey final penalty shootout defeat to Real Sociedad. Tests on Monday revealed that Lookman has some swelling in his adductor after he felt a sharp thigh pain during the final, with the Nigerian international facing at least a week out.
Atletico confirmed in a statement: “Ademola Lookman and Alexander Sorloth finished the Copa del Rey final with discomfort. The club’s medical services have carried out tests that advise maximum caution to avoid the risk of injury, so they will follow an individualised plan in the coming days, working outside the group.” Both players are targeting next Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg at the Metropolitano for their return, though doubts remain over their fitness.
