Real Madrid’s Tchouameni on Man Utd radar

Manchester United are monitoring Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as a primary summer target to strengthen their squad ahead of an expected return to the Champions League.

Manchester United have placed Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni at the top of their shortlist as they prioritize midfield reinforcements for the upcoming summer transfer window. The 26-year-old, who has made 191 appearances for the Spanish giants, is seen as a world-class solution to anchor United’s engine room under Michael Carrick. While Tchouameni’s contract runs until 2028, Real Madrid may be persuaded by a significant offer as they look to restructure their squad following a rare season without silverware.

The interest in the French international comes as United move to the brink of Champions League qualification, currently needing just one victory from their final games to secure a return to Europe’s elite. While domestic options like Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton are also under consideration, concerns over Wharton’s overlapping profile with Kobbie Mainoo have pushed the club to look overseas. United previously missed out on Tchouameni in 2022 when he opted for the Bernabeu over Old Trafford.

United’s financial flexibility is set to increase significantly with high earners Casemiro and Jadon Sancho expected to depart this summer. Additional funds could be bolstered by Marcus Rashford’s potential €30m (£26.1m) permanent move to Barcelona, provided the Catalan club triggers their option by mid-June. This windfall would provide the necessary capital to test Real Madrid’s resolve for Tchouameni, who remains the centerpiece of United’s long-term tactical vision.
