South Africa lost to Mexico in the World Cup opener while South Korea edged Czech Republic in the other fixture.
Bafana Bafana could barely lay a glove on Mexico in the opening group match as they lost 2-0. Sphephelo Sithole gave the ball away which led Julian Quinones to open the scoring sending home support wild in the stands. Sithole’s afternoon got worse as he was handed a red card.
17 mins latr after the first goal, Raul Jimenez made it 2-0 and South Africa were soon down to nine men. Mexico were not left out as Cesar Montes bagged a red card in the second minute of extra time.\
With their 61’st win at the World Cup finals, Mexico have given themselves an incredible opportunity to progress and wnhance their reputation at FIFA’s global showpiece.
Ladislav Krejci’s opener brought life into Guadalajara, technical and intricate play matched up against the Czech’s physical approach and even after falling behind showed great spirit to equalize and win the match with Oh Hyeon-gyu’s strike.
