Germany demolished first-time World Cup participants Curaçao 7-1 at Houston’s NRG Stadium, briefly allowing the Caribbean minnows a fairytale moment before responding with six unanswered goals.
France 24 reports Germany meant business from the first whistle. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring in just the sixth minute , but the fairytale looked briefly alive when Livano Comenencia levelled in the 21st minute Curaçao’s first-ever goal at a FIFA World Cup.
The Caribbean nation’s dream, however, lasted barely minutes. Nico Schlotterbeck, Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown, Deniz Undav and Havertz again completed the rout , with Germany eventually running out emphatic 7-1 winners.
After Comenencia’s historic equaliser briefly sparked dreams across the Caribbean island nation, the four-time champions responded with six unanswered goals  to announce their tournament intentions in style.
