Newcastle United are going back for James Trafford and this time they’re not taking no for an answer. According to ChronicleLive, the Magpies are accelerating their pursuit of the Manchester City goalkeeper this summer, with Eddie Howe targeting a complete overhaul of his options between the sticks.
It is the third successive summer Newcastle have chased Trafford, twice agreeing personal terms with him only to be pipped by City, who triggered a buy-back clause and landed him for £26 million ahead of last season. But the move never delivered what Trafford hoped for. He made just 17 appearances during his first season at the Etihad, with his limited game time now fuelling serious speculation about his future.
Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards reports that Trafford has been making positive noises about wanting to play for Newcastle, though he cautions it remains a difficult and expensive deal in terms of both fee and wages. Manchester City have now accepted that Trafford will leave this summer and are already scouting a replacement. Newcastle, however, won’t have it all their own way Chelsea are monitoring the situation and Tottenham want him as a potential replacement for Guglielmo Vicario.
