Norway 3-2 Senegal: Haaland’s eating the World Cup alive—four goals in two games

Erling Haaland scored twice — including a stunning side-foot volley — as Norway beat Senegal 3-2 to qualify for the World Cup last 32, with the Manchester City striker now owning every major Norway scoring record at the tournament.

HAALAND IS ON ANOTHER PLANET

Four goals. Two games.

Erling Haaland was at it again in New Jersey, scoring twice as Norway beat Senegal 3-2 to book their place in the last 32, per BBC Sport. The Manchester City striker now has twice as many World Cup goals as any other Norwegian player in history — after just two matches.

Norway took the lead through full-back Marcus Pederson, who pounced on a howler from Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly late in the first half. But this was always going to be Haaland’s show.

He raced onto Martin Odegaard’s incisive through ball in the 48th minute — becoming Norway’s all-time top World Cup scorer in the process — before Ismaila Sarr pulled one back to give Senegal brief hope. Haaland wasn’t having it. Five minutes later he produced a calmly taken side-foot volley that rattled in off the bar and effectively killed the game.

Sarr struck again in injury time to set up a nervy finale, and Crystal Palace’s winger had a golden chance to equalise in the final seconds — but headed over. Norway held on.

The only surprise by the end was that Haaland hadn’t walked away with a hat-trick. He hit the post with an open goal earlier in the game. Of course he did.

The 25-year-old has now scored in 12 consecutive competitive matches for Norway, registering at least two goals in each of the past six.

France await in the final group game — a mouth-watering clash between two already-qualified sides with top spot on the line.

Norway are through. Haaland is just getting started.
