Ancelotti’s winning touch lifts Brazil past Japan

This game provided a reason why Brazil brought in Carlo Ancelotti.

The pressure on any Brazil team, or coach, is always astonishing.

But, as ever, Ancelotti was the coolest head in Houston.

Brazil had been overrun in midfield in the opening 45 minutes, so introducing Endrick for Lucas Paqueta and going to a 4-2-4 system could have been asking for trouble.

Instead, it proved an inspired move.

That’s what Ancelotti’s best Madrid sides often did: not play great, struggle at times, but find a way to win, often by big players stepping up in vital moments to provide what their team needed.
