The LA Galaxy suffered a humbling 4-0 defeat at home against the Seattle Sounders, leading head coach Greg Vanney to concede that his team was simply "outplayed across the board." The loss leaves the MLS Cup holders languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference, with a meager 15 points from 25 games.
Seattle's victory began with an own goal by Julian Aude in the 25th minute. Danny Musovski then extended the lead to 2-0 with a rebound goal late in the first half. Musovski added another goal early in the second half, and Synder Brunell, an 18-year-old, capped off the scoring with a goal on his MLS debut in the 85th minute.
The Sounders are currently enjoying a 10-game unbeaten streak across all competitions since their loss to Paris Saint-Germain at the Club World Cup in June. They have been in impressive form, scoring 26 goals in their last eight games.
Vanney expressed his disappointment, stating that his team did not meet the required level to compete against a strong Seattle side. He acknowledged that the Galaxy were thoroughly dominated in various aspects of the game.
Captain Maya Yoshida echoed Vanney's sentiments, admitting that no one on the team performed up to the necessary standard. Despite the defeat, the Galaxy have a Leagues Cup quarter-final match against Pachuca on the horizon, providing an opportunity for redemption.
Yoshida acknowledged that Seattle posed a significantly greater challenge than their recent Leagues Cup opponents. The Sounders' next MLS match is against Minnesota United, followed by their own Leagues Cup quarter-final against Puebla.
