Manchester United are considering a move for Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi as a replacement for the departed Casemiro, with the Besiktas midfielder available for €8 million, though Hull City and Saudi clubs are also in the running.
UNITED TARGET NDIDI — AND NIGERIA IS WATCHING
Manchester United have turned their attention to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi as they search for a Casemiro replacement, per Punch.
The Brazilian veteran departed Old Trafford at the end of last season, leaving United short in defensive midfield after a frustrating summer window. Elliott Anderson joined Manchester City, while Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali both headed to Tottenham — forcing United back into the market.
Ndidi, 29, has been on United’s radar since last summer when interest first emerged during his Leicester City days. That move failed to materialise, with the Nigerian instead joining Besiktas where he has made 31 appearances this season, contributing two goals and one assist.
A managerial change at Besiktas has unsettled Ndidi’s future, with the Turkish club placing an €8 million valuation on the midfielder and willing to listen to offers.
United face competition, however. Hull City are monitoring the situation as the newly promoted side look to build a sustainable top-flight squad, while Saudi Pro League clubs have also registered interest.
Ndidi spent eight years at Leicester City, making over 200 appearances and winning the FA Cup and Community Shield. He was also part of the Nigerian squad that finished on the podium at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Should the move happen, Ndidi would become only the second Nigerian to represent Manchester United after Odion Ighalo.
