Morocco eliminated co-hosts Canada 3-0 to reach the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the second straight tournament.
MOROCCO STORMS INTO WORLD CUP QUARTER-FINALS WITH 3-0 WIN OVER CANADA
Morocco powered past co-hosts Canada 3-0 on Saturday in Houston, ending the hosts’ historic World Cup run in front of a packed crowd.
After weathering early Canadian pressure, Azzedine Ounahi’s second-half double did the damage, with the midfielder sweeping in a low free-kick from Hakimi five minutes into the second half before doubling the lead on a swift counterattack in the 82nd minute. Substitute Soufiane Rahimi pounced in the 98th minute to complete the rout and seal the result.
Canada, the better side early on, created several chances but failed to convert, while Morocco recovered from Ismael Saibari’s first-half injury to take control after the break.
According to Sky Sports, Morocco will now meet either France or Paraguay as they chase back-to-back World Cup semi-final appearances.
