Sir Keir Starmer personally intervened to stop FIFA from moving England’s World Cup match kick-off time, suspecting Mexico was seeking an unfair advantage.
STARMER’S KICK-OFF SAVE
Sir Keir Starmer personally stepped in to block FIFA from moving England’s Azteca kick-off from 1am to 7pm UK time, suspecting Mexico wanted to limit England’s time to adjust to the altitude, The Sun reports. A source said Starmer “put his foot down” after the FA consulted Downing Street. England went on to win 3-2 in an epic clash, following a rain delay, and advance to face Norway in the quarter-finals.
Starmer had earlier extended pub opening hours to 5am, a move that boosted sales, with some venues reporting drink sales up by over 350,000 on an average Sunday.
