UEFA wants Nasser Al-Khelaifi to challenge Gianni Infantino

European football leaders are reportedly seeking Nasser Al-Khelaifi as a potential challenger to FIFA president Gianni Infantino ahead of next year’s election.

European football leaders are exploring the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi challenging FIFA president Gianni Infantino in next year’s presidential election, according to The Telegraph.

The move follows growing opposition to Infantino’s proposed World Cup commercial sell-off, which has prompted UEFA to convene an emergency meeting with its member associations to discuss possible responses.

The Telegraph reported that Al-Khelaifi is viewed by some senior figures as the strongest candidate to unseat Infantino because of his influence across world football.

However, a representative for the Qatari executive insisted he has “no ambition, no intention, no interest” in the FIFA presidency. Al-Khelaifi currently serves in several senior football roles, including on UEFA’s executive committee and the FIFA Council.
