Xabi Alonso says Real Madrid exit ‘scar’ has healed

Xabi Alonso says he has learned from his difficult Real Madrid exit and is fully focused on building a new era at Chelsea.

Xabi Alonso says the disappointment of his early exit from Real Madrid is behind him as he begins a new chapter as Chelsea manager.

Speaking during the club’s pre-season tour in Australia, the Spaniard admitted his Madrid spell left a “scar” but insisted it has healed after months away from management, BBC Sport reports.

The former Bayer Leverkusen boss revealed he spent time reflecting on what went wrong before accepting Chelsea’s offer following detailed meetings with the club’s hierarchy. Alonso said their shared vision convinced him Stamford Bridge was the right destination.

Chelsea have backed their new manager in the transfer market with the arrivals of Morgan Rogers and Marco Palestra, while experienced duo Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson are also set to strengthen the squad’s leadership and dressing-room culture.

Alonso said his focus is on building the right balance of youth, experience and team culture as Chelsea prepare for the new Premier League season, adding that he believes the club has significant potential to improve after last season’s disappointing campaign.
