Former Southampton winger Eljero Elia escaped serious injury after his Lamborghini was wrecked in a three-car crash on a Dutch motorway.
Former Premier League footballer Eljero Elia says he is “lucky” to be alive after being involved in a three-car crash in the Netherlands. The ex-Southampton winger reportedly collided with two vehicles while driving his £270,000 Lamborghini Urus on the A4 motorway near Leiden around 9:45pm on Saturday. Dutch police confirmed that no one suffered serious injuries, though Elia and two other motorists were taken to a nearby station.
“I was driving in a stretch that’s normally quiet around that time,” Elia told Omreop West. “Suddenly, I saw the traffic in front of me brake and come to a standstill. I tried to brake, but I skid.” Pictures of the mangled Lamborghini have since circulated on social media.
The 38-year-old, who earned 30 caps for the Netherlands, is best remembered for his spells with Werder Bremen and Feyenoord. Elia retired in 2022 following a severe ankle ligament injury.
