Ex-West Ham star attacked by fan in Marseille airport

Nayef Aguerd confirmed being assaulted at Marseille airport but said he was uninjured.

Former West Ham United centre-back Nayef Aguerd has revealed he was assaulted by an overzealous fan at Marseille Provence Airport while preparing to join Morocco for international duty. French outlet RMC reported that the attacker had approached Aguerd for a selfie before “attempting to slap” the 29-year-old, prompting a swift arrest by security.

Aguerd took to social media to confirm the incident, saying, “I was indeed assaulted at Marignane airport while waiting for my flight to join the Moroccan national team. Fortunately, it was more of a scare than anything else, and everything was quickly resolved thanks to the intervention of security personnel and law enforcement.”

The Marseille defender, who recently transferred from West Ham after a loan at Real Sociedad, assured fans he was unhurt and focused on club and country duties. “I’m doing well… Life goes on,” he added.
