Jamie Carragher clarified his contrasting views on post-match celebrations, defending Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s exuberance after a last-minute win while reiterating his earlier criticism of Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, sparking further debate among fans.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has dismissed claims that he holds an anti-Arsenal bias after fans accused him of hypocrisy following Chelsea’s dramatic win over Liverpool.
Carragher had said he “loved” manager Enzo Maresca’s passionate celebrations after Estevao’s stoppage-time winner on Saturday. But Arsenal supporters quickly recalled his criticism of Martin Odegaard’s post-match celebrations following the Gunners’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool in February 2024, when he told the captain to “just get down the tunnel.”
Responding on The Overlap Fan Debate, Carragher said: “Arsenal beat Liverpool 3-1… there was a bit of celebration after the game. You were still behind Liverpool. Enzo reacted to a goal in the last kick of the game — that’s a natural reaction.”
He added that Arsenal fans were being “a little bit touchy” online, noting that the reaction to his comments was overblown. “It’s not a media narrative against Arsenal,” he insisted.
