Pickford sets new England record with eighth straight clean sheets

Jordan Pickford made England history by becoming the first goalkeeper to keep eight consecutive clean sheets in full 90-minute appearances as the Three Lions beat Wales 3-0 at Wembley.

Jordan Pickford etched his name into England’s football history books as the Three Lions defeated Wales 3-0 at Wembley on Thursday. The Everton goalkeeper became the first player ever to keep eight consecutive clean sheets in full 90-minute appearances for England, surpassing the long-standing record set by 1966 World Cup legend Gordon Banks.

Thomas Tuchel’s side continued their impressive form, sealing their sixth win in seven games under the German, all without conceding. Goals from Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka powered England’s victory.

Pickford’s shutout streak began in November 2024 against Ireland and Greece and has continued through fixtures against Albania, Latvia, Andorra, Serbia, and now Wales.

Reflecting England’s progress, Saka said: “We’re building something good, and it’s exciting to be part of it. I feel we’re progressing and going in the right direction under him.” Pickford will aim to extend his record when England face Latvia on October 14.
