AS Roma have officially secured the services of Brazilian international Wesley from Flamengo in a deal totaling €30 million, including add-ons. The 21-year-old right-back, a rising star who made his senior international debut for Brazil in March 2024, will bring his considerable talent to the Stadio Olimpico.
Wesley's journey has been remarkable. After joining Flamengo from Clube Atletico Tubarao in 2020, he quickly established himself as a key player, contributing to their Copa Libertadores triumph in 2022. He also played a significant role in Flamengo’s run to the last 16 of the Club World Cup, where they faced a tough defeat against Bayern Munich.
His impressive performances attracted interest from several top European clubs. Following Flamengo’s acquisition of Emerson Royal, the club gave the green light for Wesley’s transfer. He has signed a lucrative five-year contract with Roma and will don the number 43 shirt, adding his name to the impressive list of Brazilian players who have represented the Giallorossi, now standing at 46.
Wesley is the third significant signing for Roma ahead of their first season under manager Gian Piero Gasperini, joining fellow newcomers Neil El Aynaoui and Evan Ferguson. This exciting addition further strengthens Roma’s squad as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
Roma fans are undoubtedly excited to witness Wesley's impact on the team. His talent, energy and experience from major competitions promise to make him a valuable asset.
