Bruno Fernandes denies turning down £100m Saudi offer over World cup fears

Bruno Fernandes insists his decision to reject a £100m Saudi move was out of loyalty to Manchester United, not World Cup ambitions.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has dismissed claims he rejected a £100million move to Saudi Arabia last summer to boost his World Cup chances. The 31-year-old midfielder, who has two years left on his contract, confirmed that his decision to stay was purely out of loyalty to United. “I didn’t close the door on moving to Saudi Arabia because of the World Cup. That was never in my mind. I wanted to stay at Manchester United, and the club wanted me to stay,” Fernandes said during a press conference while on international duty with Portugal.

Reports suggested Al-Hilal offered a £200m deal, but Fernandes opted to remain at Old Trafford despite the club’s struggles under Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese star, however, admitted uncertainty about his long-term future, adding, “I still don’t know if I’ll play, let alone if I’ll leave Manchester United in a year.”
