Mourinho suggested the Brazilian incited opponents with his celebrations, questioning why he is frequently targeted.
Kompany labeled these comments “a huge mistake” and “something that we should not accept,” arguing that the leader of an organization should not use celebrations to discredit a player’s experience.
Kompany emphasized that Vinícius’ reaction “cannot be faked” and highlighted the emotional toll of such incidents.
While acknowledging Mourinho is a “good person,” Kompany insisted the Benfica manager’s stance was wrong.
UEFA has since appointed a special investigator to gather evidence regarding the Lisbon incident, where Vinícius accused Gianluca Prestianni of racial insults. Real Madrid has reportedly submitted all available evidence to governing bodies.
