Nigeria striker Akor Adams has been granted compassionate leave from AFCON 2025 to visit his hospitalized mother, following his goal-scoring performance in the Super Eagles’ 4-0 win over Mozambique.
Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has departed Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations camp following the team’s 4-0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16.
The team’s official social media channels confirmed that the Sevilla forward was granted permission to leave to be with his mother, who was hospitalized on Monday.
The team shared a supportive message, stating, “Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to go be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday.”
Despite receiving the distressing news prior to the knockout match, Adams showed remarkable professionalism by starting the game against the Mambas.
He capped off a dominant Nigerian performance by scoring the fourth and final goal of the match before his departure.
Regarding his absence, the Nigerian team added, “We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery.”
The Super Eagles are now preparing for a quarter-final clash scheduled for Saturday against either Algeria or DR Congo.
It remains uncertain if Adams will be able to return to the squad in time for that fixture as the team travels to Marrakech on Thursday.
His absence would leave a significant void in the frontline after his impressive goal-scoring contribution in the previous round.
