Nigeria’s Super Eagles have advanced to the AFCON 2025 semi-finals to face Morocco after a 2–0 victory over Algeria, earning high praise from Atiku Abubakar and other national leaders.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated the Super Eagles following their 2–0 quarter-final victory over Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
In a post on X, Atiku lauded the team’s resilience, stating, “Your fighting spirit has once again lifted the hopes of millions of Nigerians.
Keep soaring, we are firmly behind you.” The win fuels national pride as Nigeria continues its quest for continental glory.
The match at Stade de Marrakech saw Nigeria dominate possession, with Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams providing the decisive goals.
Despite a compact Algerian defense and saves by Luca Zidane, Osimhen’s second-half header broke the deadlock before Adams doubled the lead.
Nigeria entered the clash as the tournament’s highest-scoring side, having recently defeated Mozambique 4–0, while Algeria had previously conceded only once in four matches.
The victory secures the Super Eagles a spot in the semi-finals, where they are scheduled to face the host nation, Morocco.
The Moroccans advanced after defeating Cameroon in their own quarter-final fixture.
As excitement builds, high-profile figures including President Tinubu and Peter Obi have joined Atiku in hailing the team’s performance, while BUA Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu has pledged $500,000 in bonuses ahead of the next round.
