Oleksandr Zinchenko will miss the remainder of the season and Ukraine’s World Cup play-offs after suffering a major knee injury during his full Ajax debut.
Oleksandr Zinchenko’s tenure at Ajax has been cut short by a devastating knee injury suffered just minutes into his home debut against Fortuna Sittard.
The 29-year-old Ukrainian international, who recently joined the Dutch giants from Arsenal following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, requires surgery on his left knee. Ajax confirmed on Monday that the defender faces a lengthy rehabilitation period.
The injury serves as a massive blow for Ukraine ahead of their critical World Cup play-off semi-final against Sweden next month.
Having made only two appearances for the Amsterdam club, Zinchenko’s season is officially over. An official club statement confirmed the news:
“Examination at the hospital has shown that surgery is required. The 29-year-old Ukraine international will not play again this season.”
