The thrilling encounter saw Nigeria overcome a resilient challenge to move one step closer to qualifying for the global showpiece.
Sevilla forward Akor Adams opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 78th minute. The striker’s precise finish from inside the box gave the Super Eagles a well-deserved lead following a period of sustained pressure.
However, Gabon refused to yield, and their persistence paid off when Mario Lemina equalized in the 89th minute, forcing the game into extra time with the score locked at 1–1 after 90 minutes.
Nigeria rediscovered their rhythm and took immediate control in the added periods. Another Sevilla forward, Chidera Ejuke, restored the Super Eagles’ lead in the 97th minute with a composed strike past the Gabon goalkeeper.
The goal opened the floodgates for a Victor Osimhen masterclass. The striker took center stage, extending Nigeria’s advantage with a superb finish in the 102nd minute before sealing the comprehensive victory with his second goal of the match in the 110th minute.
The Super Eagles will now face the winner of the other semi-final, which pits Cameroon against DR Congo, in the play-off final.
The final is scheduled for Sunday, November 16, with the winner progressing to the inter-confederation play-offs to maintain their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
