Alexander Isak injury update: Swedish striker to miss a few months

Liverpool fear record signing Alexander Isak has suffered a broken leg that will sidelined for a few months following a goalscoring appearance against Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool face an anxious wait over the fitness of Alexander Isak after the striker suffered a suspected broken leg during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham.

The Sweden international, a record summer signing, was forced off just ten minutes after being introduced as a half-time substitute.

Despite scoring the opening goal, Isak was caught by a heavy challenge from Micky van de Ven, leaving the pitch in visible distress and requiring assistance from medical staff.

The injury has sparked fears of a long-term layoff, with initial assessments suggesting a potential fracture to his left leg.

While the club has ruled out cruciate ligament damage, they are awaiting MRI results to confirm the full extent of the bone injury.

Manager Arne Slot admitted the situation looked bleak, stating: “If a player scores and then gets injured and then doesn’t even try to come back, that is usually not a good thing.”

With Mohamed Salah currently away at the Africa Cup of Nations and Cody Gakpo also sidelined, Isak’s absence leaves Liverpool significantly light in attack.

Reports suggest the club may now be forced into the January transfer market to find reinforcements.

Reflecting on the uncertainty of the situation, Slot added: “That is just gut feeling and nothing medical… let’s not be too negative yet. We don’t know yet. Let’s hope he is back with us soon.”
