The Chilean forward, who had earlier said he would not celebrate against his former club, opened the scoring from the penalty spot after VAR overturned the referee’s initial decision.
“I had said I wouldn’t celebrate, but sometimes the excitement overcomes me, and the desire drives me to do so. In truth, I hold a great deal of love for Barcelona,” Sanchez told reporters after the game.
The veteran winger was one of Sevilla’s standout performers, leading several attacks that troubled Barcelona’s defence. His goal came after Ronald Araujo fouled Isaac Romero in the box, sparking a VAR review that confirmed the penalty.
