Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to return against Nottingham Forest, but the Reds have been dealt a fresh blow with Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley picking up new injuries.
Liverpool confirms that attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and defender Conor Bradley will miss the upcoming match against Nottingham Forest due to muscle injuries, though goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to return from his hamstring issue.
According to a report from Liverpool.com, the club could be without as many as four players when it takes on Nottingham Forest this weekend in the Premier League, though there is positive news regarding the return of a key player.
Goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to make his comeback from a hamstring injury, having been missing since the Champions League defeat against Galatasaray in September.
However, ahead of the return to Premier League action, Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley have both picked up muscle injuries and are not going to feature at Anfield.
It remains to be seen exactly how long Wirtz will be out, but he is set to be absent for less time than Bradley, who is likely to miss around three weeks.
Unfortunately for head coach Arne Slot, Jeremie Frimpong will not be back before then either, leaving him short of options at right-back.
Additionally, Giovanni Leoni is sidelined for the remainder of the season with the ACL injury that he sustained against Southampton in the League Cup.
On a brighter note, Alexander Isak, who arrived from Newcastle United on deadline day, is working his way back up to full fitness after a setback and is expected to be on the bench for the weekend’s visit of Nottingham Forest.
Addressing the team’s aspirations for the season, Slot maintained a clear focus on immediate challenges:
“I think I’ve said many times already that at this moment of time we are not even thinking or talking about [the title race]. It’s just about the next game.
I’ve said many times last season and I say this this season again as well, the best way to judge a league table is after 38 games. But the next best thing, in my opinion, is after 19 games. Let’s see where we are then.”
