Manchester United are accelerating their January transfer plans to sign a midfielder amid manager Ruben Amorim’s concerns over losing key players like Bryan Mbeumo to the Africa Cup of Nations.
According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United are moving to accelerate their January transfer strategy due to concerns over head coach Ruben Amorim’s ability to maintain the club’s resurgence without immediate reinforcements.
Amorim, who celebrated one year in charge after a difficult initial period that saw United finish 15th and lose the Europa League final, has now led the club into the top six following three successive wins.
Despite this positive trajectory, a “massive concern” remains regarding a long-term central midfield signing.
While the club spent approximately £200 million on attacking reinforcements last summer, the midfield was neglected.
The club hierarchy, including chief executive Omar Berrada, was reportedly determined not to “splash the cash” in January, preferring to wait until the summer of 2026 for a major No. 6 acquisition. However, the manager is now pushing for a mid-season move.
Director of Football Jason Wilcox outlined the club’s overall philosophy, saying: “We have got a clear plan. We know what we have got to do, we know the areas of the team that we have got to improve.”
Amorim himself confirmed the intention to be active in the market, but only for players with long-term potential.
“We want to bring players, everyone here, we want to bring players that we can see a big future in Manchester United,” he stated.
“The window is open, we can do something.” The report suggests Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is a top target, rated around £70 million.
