Manchester United's goalkeeper, Andre Onana, is reportedly weighing a loan move to Turkish side Trabzonspor, marking a potential shift in the goalkeeping dynamics at Old Trafford. This consideration comes after Onana was previously linked with Galatasaray, another Turkish club, which ultimately opted to sign Ugurcan Cakir instead. Cakir's move to Galatasaray from Trabzonspor on September 2nd for a deal potentially worth 36 million euros (£31.2 million) has triggered a search for alternatives at Trabzonspor, with club sources suggesting Onana could make a significant impact.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until September 12th, allowing Trabzonspor a limited timeframe to secure Onana's services. Onana is currently on international duty with Cameroon, further complicating the negotiations. The potential departure of either Onana or Altay Bayindir from Manchester United has been a topic of discussion since the club's acquisition of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day. Then United boss Erik ten Hag sought a reunion with the goalkeeper. Ten Hag and Onana previously worked together at Ajax. Yet, Onana has struggled to find consistency. This raised questions about the decision to replace David de Gea, a four-time club player of the year.
Several mistakes led to Onana's benching. This came during the Premier League defeat at Newcastle on April 13th. However, he was reinstated for the Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon.
